Description

It would be good if instead of completely removing all evidence of a comment, they could leave a message which says why the comment was deleted, which would sit in the view instead of the comment itself, perhaps in a lighter colour than all the remaining comments.

Er, so we'd leave an article behind with no comments but 80 "comment deleted" markers? Or do you not get much spam?

On the other hand, I can see something like this being useful for "editorial deletions," where the deleted comment isn't spam, but it's not helpful, either--a troll, for instance.

I'll think about it.

I only get trolls and off-topic comments, and have never once seen spam (at the moment I'm just assuming that the anti-spam feature is working.)

It seems reasonable that if no reason is given for the deletion, that the thing could be removed entirely. That way you get the option when nuking the comment.

I think by far the easiest way to do this is to simply edit the comment and replace the contents with your own text saying you deleted it for whatever reason. I'm going to close this ticket as wontfix as what I just suggested is already possible.
